Botswana should end use of archaic sedition law to curb freedom of expression

The Freedom of Expression Institute- FXI continues to monitor disturbing reports from Botswana where an editor of a weekly Sunday standard newspaper, Outsa Mokone, was arrested causing his reporter Edgar Tsimane to flee the country into South Africa. The two are facing sedition charges for a story that was published in the newspaper alleging that Botswana President Ian Khama was driving alone in a vehicle at night and got involved in an accident. The official version is that one of the vehicles that transport the president was involved in an accident but the president was not in the car at the time. The reporter Edgar Tsimane insists that his story is factual and that his sources are credible.
