The Johannesburg based Freedom of Expression Institute (FXI) was formed in 1994 to defend freedom of expression, to oppose censorship and to promote media diversity. The Institute seeks to appoint an Executive Director in an exciting and challenging environment.
This is a high profile position that requires overall strategic leadership and effective management of the organisation.
Requirements: a track record of managing programmes, people and finances, preferably in an NGO environment; strong organisational skills, a track-record in fundraising; excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; financial management skills; a commitment to the vision, mission and objectives of the FXI; and a comprehensive understanding of the freedom of expression environment in South Africa and the rest of the continent; experience in handling the media; good people skills and networking abilities, and the ability to multitask and work under pressure. A relevant postgraduate qualification is desirable.
