Tusi Fokane is a media and policy analyst. She holds a Masters in Management of Public Policy degree from the University of the Witwatersrand. Her experience includes media policy development, research and analysis and strategic planning and operational management, undertaken at various public, private and non-profit sector organisations. Her particular interests are in freedom of expression and human rights.
Head of Law Clinic
Sheniece Linderboom obtained her Bachelor of Law LLB degree from the University of KwaZulu Natal. She became an Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa in KwaZulu Natal in September 2011. She enrolled as an attorney of the North Gauteng High Court Pretoria in May 2013. Sheniece has experience in drafting and vetting of contracts, research and providing advice. She also has experience in litigation. Her particular interests are in Constitutional and Human Rights Law.
Siphiwe Segodi is a human rights and socio-economic justice activist, and has been part of several initiatives aimed at enhancing the rights of ordinary South Africans. He joined the FXI in 2008 to, among other things, coordinate a grassroots freedom of expression network. He is the founding organiser of the Right2Know Campaign’s Gauteng branch, and has been involved in the development of various social movements from 2001. He is currently the Project Officer at the FXI. Siphiwe has a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Policy Studies from the University of South Africa.
Knowledge and Information Management Officer
Bongani Phiri is a Knowledge and Information Management Officer at the Freedom of Expression Institute. Bongani has considerable experience in database development and management, information management and monitoring and evaluation. She holds a BSC in Management Information Systems from the University of Malawi.
Mpho Tsimane obtained his Bachelor Degree and Honours in Social Science from the University of Fort Hare. Mpho has worked as an Intern at the Civilian Secretariat of Police – Research and Policy Unit. Mpho has also worked at the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) where he assisted with access to information requests.
Lesedi Hobbs joined the Freedom of Expression Institute in 2016. He previously worked at Independent Media as a journalist. He obtained his Bachelor Degree in Communications from North West University.
Zandile joined FXI in 2014. She is an environmental and socio-economics humans rights activist who has worked with various charity and civil society organisations. Zandile holds a certificate in Corporate Social Responsibility from University of North West and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Art degree- specialising in Communication Science at the University of South Africa (UNISA). Zandile is passionate about social well-being.
Sheila obtained her Diploma in Office Administration from Rosebank College and has worked for companies including Pfizer Laboratories, Duracell SA, and National Brands Ltd (Ciro Division). She has worked as the FXI Administrator for 10 years managing all administrative procedures of the FXI and ensures that all operations run efficiently.
Resource Centre Assistant (Volunteer)
Nduduzo Khuboni, is a Resource Centre Assistant (Volunteer) at Freedom of Expression Institute. He holds a Bachelor of Social Science degree majoring in Ethics and Political Science and Bachelor of Social Science Honours in Political Science. Both these were obtained from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal Pietermaritzburg.
Mpho Gama obtained his LLB degree from the University of the Witwatersrand. Before joining the Freedom of Expression Institute he previously worked at the National Film and Video and Foundation (NFVF) in the Policy and Research department as a legal intern. He has experience in vetting and drafting contracts and legal research.
