Raymond Louw

Dr Raymond Louw is the longest serving member of the FXI executive committee. He is a veteran journalist, editor, media commentator and respected freedom of expression activist. Raymond is the Chairperson of the South African Press Council, prior to which he was Editor and Publisher of the ‘Southern Africa Report’. He has also served on the boards of various other reputable organizations such as South African National Editors Forum. He was named a World Press Freedom Hero by the Vienna-based International Press Institute.

Anton Harber

Anton Harber is the Chairman of the FXI Board. He is Caxton Professor of Journalism and Media Studies and Director of the Journalism Programme at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits). He is an established South African media commentator who is widely published and has had a long career in journalism, media management and the training of journalists.

Nobuntu Mbelle

Nobuntu Mbelle is a Human Rights lawyer with experience in the fields of good governance, the African Union and its organs. Nobuntu has been a civil society activist and coordinator of the Coalition for the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and is an independent consultant and researcher on African governance.

William Gumede

William Gumede is an Honorary Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Public and Development Management at the University of the Witwatersrand. He is a leading investigative journalist, former editor, political analyst and best-selling author.

Indra de Lanerolle

Indra de Lanerolle is an experienced communicator, teacher and strategist who has worked with major organisations in South Africa and internationally, including AVUSA, BBC, GAVI Alliance, Monitor Group SA, Multichoice, SABC, Soul City Institute for Health and Development Communication, South African Department of Health, Telkom, and Unilever SA.

Oupa Lebogo

Oupa Lebogo is the General Secretary of the Creative Workers Union of South Africa (CWUSA). He has extensive organizing and advocacy experience. He has served as the Vice President of the Federation of International Musicians, and as its African Committee Chairperson.

Sam Radebe

Sam Radebe is the National Chairperson of the Freedom of Expression Network, a network of community-based organizations, ngos and social movements across the South Africa.

Franz Kruger

Franz KrugerFranz Kruger is a Professor at the School of Journalism and Media Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand. He is also the Director of Wits Radio Academy. He worked as a journalist for 25 years. He is a member of SA Press Appeals Panel and an Ombud for the newspaper, Mail & Guardian.
