Civic education

Civic education in a democracy is education in self-government where citizens are actively involved in their own governance; they do not just passively accept the status quo or demands of others but however, act based on informed, critical reflection; and on the understanding and acceptance of the rights and responsibilities that go with that membership. Civic education forms a core component of the FXI’s work and has been vital to the promotion of access to information through an active citizenry and the creation of platforms for dialogue and participation. One of the ways in which FXI does this, is through the Public Policy Dialogues in which the FXI engages members of communities around the country on issues of access to information.
