  • Tusi Fokane Executive Director

    Tusi Fokane is a media and policy analyst with a focus on communications regulation. Her experience includes media policy development, research and analysis. Tusi holds a Masters in Management of Public Policy degree from the University of the Witwatersrand.Her particular interests are in freedom of expression and human rights.

  • Siphiwe Segodi Project Officer

    Siphiwe Segodi is a human rights and socio-economic justice activist, and has been part of several initiatives aimed at enhancing the rights of ordinary South Africans. He joined the FXI in 2008 to, among other things, coordinate a grassroots freedom of expression network. He is the founding organiser of the Right2Know Campaign’s Gauteng branch, and has been involved in the development of various social movements from 2001. Siphiwe has a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Policy Studies from the University of South Africa.

  • Bongani Phiri Knowledge and Information Management Officer

    Bongani Phiri is a Knowledge and Information Management Officer at the Freedom of Expression Institute. Bongani has considerable experience in database development and management, information management and monitoring and evaluation. She holds a BSC in Management Information Systems from The University Malawi.

  • Caitlin Hutchinson Maddox Legal Intern

    Caitlin Hutchinson Maddox is currently a J.D. Candidate at New York University School of Law and a summer legal intern with the FXI. She previously obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Bowdoin College, majoring in Government & Legal Studies and Classics, and worked as a paralegal at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP for two years. Her areas of interest include international law and human rights.

  • Lorraine Tlomatsane Head: Law Clinic

    Lorraine Tlomatsane is the Head of the Freedom of Expression Law Clinic. Lorraine  was the Assistant Manager in the Legalwise Soweto branch. She holds Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Witswatersrand as well as Higher Diploma in Company Law.

  • Moleshiwe Magana Volunteer Fundraiser

    Moleshiwe is a fundraising and event coordination professional who has more than 10 years’ experience and expertise generating revenue and increasing the funding support base from individuals and corporate sponsors for non-profit organizations such as the Legal Resources Centre. When she is not volunteering her time at FXI, Moleshiwe runs a natural skin food company that makes 100% natural soaps.

  • Mpho Gama Candidate Attorney

    Mpho Gama obtained his LLB degree from the University of the Witwatersrand. Before joining the Freedom of Expression Institute he previously worked at the National Film and Video and Foundation (NFVF) in the Policy and Research department as a legal intern. He has experience in vetting and drafting contracts and legal research.

  • Mpho Tsimane Researcher

    Mpho Tsimane has worked as an Intern at the Civilian Secretariat of Police – Research and Policy Unit. He has also worked at the South African Human Rights Commission where he assisted with access to information requests. Mpho holds an Honours in Social Science degree from the University of Fort Hare.

  • Nduduzo Khuboni Research Assistant

    Nduduzo Khuboni is a Research Assistant at Freedom of Expression Institute. He holds a Bachelor of Social Science degree majoring in Ethics and Political Science and Bachelor of Social Science Honours in Political Science. Both these were obtained from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal Pietermaritzburg.

  • Sheila Gqweta Administrator

    Sheila Gqweta is the Administrator at the Freedom of Expression Institute . She has worked as the FXI Administrator for 10 years managing all administrative procedures of the FXI and ensures that all operations run efficiently. Sheila obtained her Diploma in Office Administration from Rosebank College.

  • Zandile Jiyane Project Assistant

    Zandile Jiyane joined the Freedom of Expression Institute in 2014. She is an environmental and socio-economics human rights activist who has worked with various charity and civil society organisations. Zandile holds a certificate in Corporate Social Responsibility from the North West University, and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree- specialising in Communication Science at the University of South Africa (UNISA).
